Hi Paula....I was thrilled to read your post that your Son has walked off the Island. I hoped and prayed he would do it! I know you must be anxious for him to start at MCT. I'll be praying his rods hold up right along with you. I spend alot of my time on Facebook now. There is a big gathering of YUKU Marine parents on there. If you're not already on there, make an account and look us up. You'll find me, of course, if you search for Mommachobrown...LOL We'd love to have you join us!

Again, congrats on the good news...and God Bless.

    Hey Paula
I wrote Cory and told him about Matt getting in Kilo company. I am so glad for him. Cory is still waiting for his biopsy to be done he thinks it will be done this week. I still think it is strange he has no symptoms except the elevated blood levels I feel like they are trying to get rid of him for some reason or another. I hope if that is the case the biopsy is normal just to show them that his muscles are fine. All the doctors I work with say he should be in pain. He says he is not, and he feels fine. I am so frustrated. Will keep you informed. Maybe when it is time to go get Cory it will also be Matt's graduation, and Cory and us can watch it.
Keep us in your prayer, as I will you and Matt.

He has to give it up he has no other option. I dont think they are giving him the option on ever coming back. He said they are calling it a medical disability and he will have benefits for life. Not a full paycheck but it will help. He met the doc who is going to do his biopsy today, he explained it all to him, and is planning on doing it one day next week, hopefully. He said Matt should be going back to training this week.

Hi Robin. Have you heard from Cory? I got a letter from Matt today and he said he gave Cory all his magazines (hopefully he's a Florida Gators fan). He said he told Cory goodbye. Matt is in Kilo Company but I have no idea what platoon he is in so I can't even write him. I'm thankful he was able to go back into training. Take care and tell Cory we've been praying for him.

I am so glad Matt is getting back in. My friends son graduated charilie co on Nov 14, I will let Cory know. Also Cory says Ryan (Janis) son is a nice guy, maybe they can get out of MRP and finish together. Good Luck. Hopefully Matts jouney is coming to a close.

I am so sorry to hear that Cory's journey is coming to an end. Please tell him not to give up if the Marines is his choice. He could wait 6 months and with the waiver get back in. I think it would be better than the Army. You and Cory are continually in our prayers. Matt was hoping for a March 13th grad date but the doctor insists that he do the full 9 days of PT before doing his exit out 3-mile run and 3-mile hike so the earliest he can graduate is March 27th. Probably for the best because I definitely don't want him to get re-injured and have to go through this again. So guess his 3-month boot camp will actually be 5 months. Please keep in touch and let me know how Cory's biospy goes.

Cory called tonight, He is getting a medical discharge, will have to get the biopsy on his muscle first. he said this would be done in Charleston, SC. He does not know when yet. He said he would be getting a 50% disability check cause his injury was caused there. He said he could keep insurance for 18 mo and be entitled to VA benefits for life, he said when he gets out, he would be considered a retired Marine, as if he had served 20 yrs. He said That I would probarly get to go for the biopsy. Will keep you informed. Hope all is well with Matt.

From what I understand, The PEB unit they sent him to, he will go in front of a medical review board to determine if he can stay or will get sent home. It is a team of Doctors. Not just the recomdation from his Doc there will send him home, that is why I wish he would go ahead and get the biopsy done there. His gunny sgt told me if he does not get it there, then the marines are through with him after he comes home. Maybe there idea of sending him to this platoon is the possiblity the biopsy will be negative. And then maybe they will send him back to training. He has had alot of disappointments in his life in the past few years, I am afraid if he dosent finish this it will be another disappointment. Someone down there told him it would take a month to get it back. I am a RN and when we do biopsies on people we sometimes have them back in 2-3 days, not a month. He says he maybe able to go back in 6 mo to a year with a waiver, if he choses to do this. I am afraid if he dosent get the biopsy, he will not get the wavier. He said he would not go back to the Marines, it would be the Army. I guess this has just been to bad of an experience to repeat it again. I dont think I can go through this again either, Since he has gotten hurt some days I just cant quit crying.
Got a letter from Cory yesterday, he said Matt was doing great, and would probarly be back to training in a couple of weeks.
    Keep us in your prayers.

No he has not called anyone since Jan 1, he was not allowed the phone call on MLK day due to him being on bedrest they would not let him walk to the phone, this bedrest has been going on for about 4 weeks now. When the gunny sgt called him the week before last they took the phone to Cory, and when the gunny called him last Friday night they let Cory walk go the phone. I dont know why if they could take a phone to him to talk to gunny, why wouldnt they take the phone to him to call me. I am so disgusted.

I can not understand this and I am sure you must be so frustrated. Why in the world would they send him for a test when they have already determined that they will send him home?? Does this mean they will cover all his medical expenses if the test determines something is wrong?? Why not just send him home and let him have the test done there so he doesn't have to just sit and wait for an additional 2 months?? This is beyond me - I'm afraid I would just jump in my car, drive up there and demand to see my son. My husband laughed at me and said - "number 1, they wouldn't let you see him and number 2 - that's all he needs is his mommy coming up there". Men just don't understand though!! Please keep me updated - you're family is in my prayers.

How is Matt doing? Has he gotten to get placed back in platoon yet? I am afraid Cory might not get placed back, they keep finding things wrong with him, now they say he has some form of myopathy and his spleen is also inlarged. Losing my mind.

I don't know how you're getting through this!! Has Cory called you? I would call the chaplain and see if he could get you a phone call. How does a healthy boy leave home and then has all these problems?? I haven't heard from Matt since he saw the doctor last Tuesday so I don't know what is going on. I know he's still in MRP because I haven't received a phone call telling me any different. You know plt 1010 was honor platoon? Our boys should have been a part of that and we should have them home with us right now. Keep in touch - I'll let you know if I hear anything from Matt.

Have you heard from Matt lately? Cory is still going through tests. Was supposed to go this past Wednesday for a EMG( Test on Nerves ) test at hospital. Havent heard how that went. Am getting depressed and mad at the same time, not at Cory just everyone else. His girlfriend got a letter Thursday, he told her if he didnt start getting better they were going to send him home. He did not mention this in my letter I got Thursday, just said he was still on bedrest. He said his labs were down from 16000 to 900. But they still need to be below 500. Keep us in your prayers. Seems all I can do is cry. Not knowing what is going on is killing me.

I can understand how frustrated you must be. Have you tried calling the chaplian? Maybe he can get Cory permission to call you (I've read on other posts that this has helped). I get letters from Matt but haven't talked to him since he was dropped into MRP. He has a doctor appointment on Tuesday (1/20) and he's anticipating that he will be able to start trying to get back into training but guess we won't know anything until we get a letter. It's makes it even harder knowing that we should be going to PI in another week. Luckily Matt's injury wasn't too bad so we're hoping for the best. We'll keep Cory in our prayers and when I write Matt I'll ask him if he knows what's going on. The chaplain's phone number is 843-228-3533.

    Hey
Haven't heard anything else from Cory, his recruiter never called me back, left him another message today. Don't know a gunny sargerent to call, or anyone else to call. Don't know what they are going to do about anything, The two problems they say is wrong with Cory can be caused from severe muscle strain. I think if they tested everyone down there in boot camp their CK levels would be high too from all the exercise and training. I Don't know why they just wont leave Cory alone. Glad Matt is better. Will keep you informed.

    Hey

How is Matt doing? Got a letter from Cory Saturday, said he (CORY) was better, then I get another one that says he is not doing so good, got a letter today, they have found some more problems. Cory had a bad cold or something the week before last, and when he went to medical they ran blood test and found somethings wrong, I am a RN and I feel completely in the dark about all this, Cory does not know how to explain things to me. I am about ready to get in the car and go down there invited or not. I called his recuiter this afternoon, maybe he can find out whats going on for me. They said he has Rhapdomyolysis and myositis. Which are both problems with the muscles. We knew about the myositis, they found that 6 weeks ago in his bone scan, that was done the 1st of Dec, 2 days before he was sent to MRP, what I cant understand is why they have waited 6 weeks to even do anymore test concerning that. The kid feels fine, is having no symptoms of the Rhapdomyolysis or myositis, so why not leave him alone. He was so looking at going back to a platoon when I got Saturdays letter, then the letter today he was depressed all over again. Said he was going off base either today or tomorrow for more muscle tests, they are drawing blood almost everyother day, lots of it, his CK level is suppose to be less than 500 and it has been as high as 16000, that tells muscle damage. I am so concerned. Please keep him in your prayers

Hi Robin. I am so sorry to hear about Cory. Matt told me he talked to Cory but he didn't say anything about his setback (typical guys). I'll have to google rhapdomyolysis and myositis because I haven't a clue what this is. Is it something that just goes away? Will he be able to continue training?? I know how you feel - I wanted to drive up there and find out what was going on when Matt got hurt and you've been in the dark a lot longer than me. Matt went to the doctor on 1/6. He fractured his third metartarsal. He is off crutches but still has to wear his boot for 2 more weeks. The doctor told him to come back on 1/20 and then he would get him "back in the swing of things" (whatever that means). Hopefully he will get back in training and be able to graduate some time in March. I'll be praying for Cory.......let me know if you hear anything. (Hope his recruiter calls you -- I left 2 messages for Matt's recruiter and he never returned my calls). Luckily we know the Gunny Sgt at headquarters in Orlando (he's the one that called me when Matt got hurt) so if I need anything I just call him.

    Hey
Its Robin, Cory wants me to find out Matts last name, he said they only called each other by last names in the platoon, before he was sent to MRP. He wants to make sure which one was Matt.
